There’s more after the jump!

::::::::::::::::::::
November 2006 was a great month for gamers but a wretched month for games press and wallets. The neck-to-neck launches of the PlayStation 3 and Nintendo Wii was almost like witnessing St. Elmo’s Fire or the Arctic Lights. 1UP had a whole month of features that not only celebrate this rare occurrence but also discuss about the significance in terms of popular culture and of the industry.
To house these fantastic features, I had to design a new template hub could accommodate a lot of (if not all) PS3 and Wii information organized by chronology. There were features, countdown clocks, screens, previews, product info… it was a premium bag of trail mix of modern gaming technology. This was all garnished with little touches of military-inspired art to give the reader the “inside look from the headquarters” kind of feel.

The color scheme works really well, my only issue is the Space Shuttle. I’d have gone with a more abstract image. That said, my copyright-infringalicious alternate idea is the variant space shuttle that the Michael Bay guys photoshopped for Armageddon. It signifies both launch and -ageddon!

I would have put an image of a man sitting in the launch basket of a catapult, adding to the long list of reasons I don’t have work in design.

Of all the elements in the header image, I don’t think the space shuttle image was necessary… There are already too many ornaments to think about. Might also confuse people. “Space shuttle launch? America? (or is that Iceland?), consoles? huh?”

You have very little faith in people’s ability to comprehend a few simple images, gma. >_>
